The Lithuanian furniture maker Narbutas turns 35 this year, and it marks the occasion at ORGATEC 2026 in Cologne with ten new collections. You will find them in Hall 7.1, stands A010 / C019, from 27 to 30 October.
Ten collections, three settings
The new collections cover task chairs, acoustic products, seating and storage. Narbutas shows them in functional zones built around three settings of the working day: WORK, MEET and BREAK. Instead of a product parade, visitors walk through situations: a focused desk, a meeting, a break.
Strong design partners
Narbutas worked with renowned studios on the launches:
- BOTANY, developed with the global architecture firm Gensler
- SHORA, with Says Who
- STUDY-O, with Alejandro Valdés Design
- further work with Baldanzi & Novelli
New: VARJO by Studio Mikko Laakkonen
One of the launches in Cologne is VARJO, a collection of thermoformed PET felt acoustic solutions for walls and ceilings, designed by Studio Mikko Laakkonen. "Varjo" is Finnish for shadow, and the name fits: the three-dimensional relief catches the light and creates soft shadows across the surface.
VARJO comes in two minimalist designs inspired by familiar natural motifs: thatched roofs, hay bales and waves moving across a lake. Seven colours let the designs be combined and adapted to very different interiors, from offices and meeting rooms to lobbies, libraries, restaurants and other shared spaces.
Thermoforming gives the felt its three-dimensional form. That form helps improve acoustic comfort and at the same time makes the panel an expressive part of the room. Because the forms repeat, VARJO works in small compositions as well as on large surfaces, and the overall picture stays calm and coherent. VARJO is made from partially recycled PET felt, and the product itself can be recycled.
Mikko Laakkonen describes his aim as creating products that "blend naturally into their surroundings rather than seek to dominate them".
Acoustics as part of the furniture
Acoustics runs through the Narbutas range. On MissionAcoustic, architects can already plan Narbutas acoustic products such as the DESK 760 desk screens, MODUS Light wall panels and MODUS baffles, with their acoustic data, in MA Planner.
