ACOUSTIC\LIGHT No. 1

by ATARA

ATARA

What is the atmosphere like in a room when light and acoustics merge within a single object?

ACOUSTIC\LIGHT No. 1 combines two atmospheric qualities: light and acoustics. Developed in collaboration with Lavisio, the object combines sound-absorbing fabric with finely integrated fibre optics.

The organic-looking fabric, made from merino wool and mohair by Casalis, forms the body of the object. Delicate lines of light run through its leaf-like surface, allowing light to be experienced not only as illumination but as a material in its own right.

Material, light, space and acoustics enter into a sensory dialogue – visible, tactile and atmospheric.

About ATARA

Heike Stuckstedde/ATARA explores light as an artistic material and develops sculptural light objects and immersive installations at the intersection of art, architecture and atmosphere – from individual works and limited editions to large-scale installations for collections, hotels, businesses and public spaces. Each work strives to create a distinctive poetry of light: subtle, atmospheric and timeless.

Daylight

From daylight to dusk

ACOUSTIC\LIGHT No. 1 changes as the day progresses. Heike Stuckstedde invites you to see it in person – ideally at different times of the day.

In natural daylight the material appears calm yet striking, whilst the fibre optics run like delicate traces across the textile surface.

The people behind it

Heike Stuckstedde

Light artist, founder of ATARA

German light artist Heike Stuckstedde lives and works in Vienna. She studied art history and interior design, and since founding ATARA in 2015 has developed organic light objects and site-specific installations for exhibitions, collections and architectural projects.

Her practice is built on fibre optics: optical fibres that carry light and, through targeted manual manipulation, emit it laterally. The delicate light structures that result meet textiles, handmade straw silk, fibreglass, metal, stone or moss. Transformation is a central motif – material loses its weight, and light gains physicality.
