What is good acoustics based on?
Noise is omnipresent, yet for a long time it played only a minor role in architectural discourse. With “Ēchos”, Anna Sudy, Leonie Felger, and Anna Antoni have developed a landscape of seating objects that takes its orientation from the column as an organizing element and mediates between body, space, and sound. The furniture, designed to absorb low frequencies, combines acoustic effects with spatial design and demonstrates how acoustics can naturally become an integral part of architecture and our experience of space.
Developed as part of the seminar “Applied Acoustics” at the Institute of Architecture, University of Applied Arts Vienna.
Anna Sudy, born in Austria in 2000, is a Vienna-based industrial designer who studied at the University of Applied Arts Vienna. In her work, which spans furniture, product, and interior design, she focuses on the principles of circular design and the sustainable use of materials.
Leonie Felger is a graduate of the bachelor’s program in architecture and is interested in the design of spaces through interaction. In her work, she explores various approaches to how people engage with architecture and how different types of actors contribute to this ongoing process of negotiation. She lives in Vienna and is currently pursuing a master’s degree in architecture at the University of Applied Arts Vienna, during which she will spend a semester at the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid in 2026.
Anna Antoni is a young architect, author, and folklorist specializing in architecture. She lives in Vienna and is a student at the University of Applied Arts Vienna. She is interested in the interplay between invariants and their spatial implementation.
