Sophie Grell
Architect, artist, lighting designer, and mediator Sophie-Charlotte Grell founded Studio Sophie Grell in Vienna in 2018. She designs lighting concepts and interiors as well as art installations, often in existing buildings and in collaboration with artists and curators. As a registered mediator in the fields of planning, construction, and the environment, she leads participatory processes and subsequently develops the projects as an architect – from the initial negotiations with users and stakeholders through to the completed building. Before founding her own studio, she was head designer at Coop Himmelb(l)au in Vienna, Mexico City, and Los Angeles. Sophie Grell teaches at the Institute of Architecture at the University of Applied Arts Vienna.
